- quote and appointment per task
- response depends on workload
- costs by the hour or fixed price
- staging depends on the agreement
- order in your own words, cost estimate up front
- described in the morning, testable the same day
- monthly flat fee plus AI usage at cost
- copy, approval and backup are standard
Almost every shop owner knows the list: the filter on the category page should take delivery time into account, the order confirmation needs a note for freight goods, the plugin for the payment method has had an update pending for three months, and the landing page for the trade fair is still missing. None of these tasks is big. Together they are the reason the shop has looked the same for two years since the relaunch. The question of who works through this list leads to the comparison between agency, freelancer and AI development team. It is worth making along four criteria.
1. Response time
At an agency, every task starts with a request, an effort estimate, a quote, an approval and a slot in the sprint. That is not ill will but the logic of a business that has to keep its people busy. Even for small tasks, two to four weeks easily pass between request and go-live. A freelancer is faster, but only when they happen to have time, and good freelancers rarely do. An AI development team has no capacity problem. At the Eywora AI Crew, the rule for tasks of usual size is: what you describe in the morning is ready for testing the same day. For questions to the human team behind the Crew, the response time is a maximum of four hours on working days, one hour with the premium package.
2. Cost model
Agencies bill by the hour or at a fixed price per task. Both have a side effect: every task has to be big enough to justify the quote and the coordination. Small improvements are therefore left undone or bundled into packages that then become a project again. An AI development team works with a fixed monthly fee per shop or website. At the Eywora AI Crew, AI usage is added by consumption, at cost without markup, with a rough cost estimate before each task and a monthly limit on request. Whether that is cheaper for you depends on how many tasks you really have. If you need two changes a year, you are well served by an agency. If you want to improve something every week, the flat fee pays for the freedom to actually do it. We quote specific amounts in conversation, not on the website.
3. Risk to the live system
This is where the difference is least obvious. Good agencies naturally work on a staging environment, with backup and approval. Whether that actually happens for every small change depends on time, budget and habit, and even more so with freelancers. With an AI development team, this process is not negotiable because it is the way of working itself: the agents work exclusively on a copy, test automatically, present you a preview, and only after your approval does the change go live on fixed release days, with a backup beforehand and the option to roll back. That a machine does not loosen the rules under time pressure is an advantage on this point.
4. Traceability
Anyone who switches agencies after two years often inherits a shop in which nobody knows any more why a change was made. An AI development team documents every change in the version control system, with the order in your words and a description of what was changed. At the Eywora AI Crew, signundsinn provides the version control system or connects your own Git. The knowledge about your shop then lies with you, not with the service provider.
Where people remain
An AI development team is built for the ongoing work on an existing site. It does not set up a new shop, does not migrate platforms and does not replace strategy or design consulting. For large version jumps, such as to a new major version, people check whether a separate project makes more sense. The sensible setup is therefore not an either-or decision: an AI team for the tasks that would otherwise be left undone, and an agency for projects. At the Eywora AI Crew, that is signundsinn GmbH, which orchestrates the agents and stands behind them as the safety net.
Decision aid
An AI development team suits you if you run an existing shop or website, have small to medium changes regularly, employ no developers of your own and want to handle approval yourself. It does not suit you if you are planning a new build, use a SaaS platform like Shopify or want every change strategically accompanied by an agency.
